Description

Coastal States Bank is currently looking for an Assistant Controller for it’s Atlanta location. The Assistant Controller is a leader of the accounting team and an expert in accounting responsible for ensuring a well-controlled and efficient close process is completed each period end.  The Assistant Controller also provides analytical and reporting expertise for management and GAAP financials.  They are also a valuable resource within the Company to help innovate and improve processes and internal controls in both accounting and other business areas. 

Essential Functions: *

  • Ensures timely and well-controlled month-end close process is performed consistently
  • Analyzes financial results to determine reasons for variances and drivers of performance
  • Reviews/prepares journal entries and period-end reconciliations and works with team to resolve reconciling items timely
  • Identifies opportunities for improvements in internal controls and business processes and actively partners with others to develop and execute solutions
  • Directly supervises Accounts Payable process
  • Manages production of the annual financial statements and prepares/reviews information for document as needed
  • Leads coordination efforts with internal and external audit teams
  • Partners with CAO and external tax advisor on tax related matters
  • Reviews regulatory reporting deliverables prior to filing
  • Participates in new accounting standards implementations (CECL, for example) and technical accounting research
  • Manages key accounting information systems including General Ledger (Prologue), Blackline, and Concur
  • Coaches accounting team members
  • Ensures compliance with corporate policies and procedures
  • Assists the CAO with the review of departmental operations, resources and needs
  • Assumes responsibility for daily accounting management in CAO’s absence
  • Works on special projects, performing other job-related duties at the discretion of the CAO

Preferred Education/Experience/Software:
A minimum four-year degree in Accounting or Finance is required. A minimum of seven years of accounting work experience is required (public, private, or combination).  CPA or comparable professional certification is preferred.  Experience in bank or financial services industry is preferred.  Experience with accounting GL systems, banking core processing systems, and reconciliation software, and strong Microsoft Office skills are preferred.
